Smallbore
Rifle Plate Match -- November 7th
Again, the weather was great but a little bit
of crosswind reminded us all that it cannot be ignored, especially
with 22 LRs at 100 yards!

Larry set a new high score for the SRPM with
a 30 (of 40). He also cleaned the rail once at 100 yards. Great
shooting, Larry!
There have been plenty of available slots for additional shooters,
especially in the junior divisions. If you have sons or daughters
that want to go small game hunting this fall, the SRPM is an
excellent way to get some realistic practice and gauge their
abilities. (That goes for us old folks, too...) Get them sighted-in
on paper first and a couple practice sessions at 50 and 100
yards should have them ready to go for match day!
And it's been proven yet again that the best way to sight-in
for the match is to zero your 22 rifle at 100 yards. This allows
you to hold "dead on" for the 100-yard targets and "hold under"
for the 50-yard targets.
No need for an expensive firearm, either. Nearly all of the
shooters -- including the winners -- have been shooting "plain
vanilla", off-the-rack rifles. No one needs to spend a lot of
money to shoot SRPM.
The next SRPM is scheduled
for Saturday, January 2nd. Mark your calendars .....................
and bring a friend!

We had another first this match. Scott W. cleaned
the target rail during his first 50-yard offhand string, hitting
10-for-10 with his scoped Ruger 10/22! It must have gone to
his head, though, because he shot 0-for-20 from prone, which
ultimately kept him out of the running for a ribbon.
Again, we'd like to thank the RSOs that commit
their valuable time to making the plate matches possible. So
to Aaron, Ken, Cece, and Judy: Many Thanx!
It's a lot of
fun for $10 and a box of 22 shells! See you there --
bring a friend!

Since this was our first match, there were a few
things learned by the shooters.
First, there seemed to be a consensus that zeroing the
rifles for 100 yards and "holding under" for the 50-yard targets
works best. (Your mileage may vary...)
Second, while most of the rifles were semi-auto and bolt-action,
there appeared to be no particular advantage to choosing one
over the other.
Third, always check your equipment prior to the match.
One shooter had their scope mounts loosen and was thereafter
unable to stay in the running for a ribbon.
Break out your favorite 22 rimfire rifle
and come prepared to engage 4" steel plates at 50 and 100
yards.
Members $10, non-members $15.
